Oregon State University Marine and Geology Repository (OSU-MGR) will be hosting GLAcial Sedimentation School (GLASS) 2026, a five-day workshop focused on polar marine sediment cores (both Arctic and Antarctic). The goal of the workshop is to introduce early career researchers to methods and techniques used to interpret the stratigraphy of polar marine sediment cores in the context of ice, climate, and source-to-sink processes.
With a combination of lectures, labs, and group projects, participants will become familiar with core descriptions and smear slides, physical properties, chronostratigraphy, CT scanning and x-radiography, and geophysics. There will be five instructors for the school, with a wide range of glacial sedimentation expertise.
We anticipate 10 participants for the workshop, limited to US-based scientists. Travel, housing, and associated costs are covered by the National Science Foundation. We welcome applications from graduate students, post-docs, and other early career researchers who will benefit from the variety of topics to be covered in GLASS 2026. We are committed to improving diversity and representation in polar geoscience research and welcome applications that help to achieve these goals.
